When someone says they’re a Salesforce administrator, I often ask a simple question:
Which Setup features do you use the most?
The answer tells me a lot about their experience.
Salesforce Setup contains hundreds of tools, but there are a handful that every administrator should know inside and out.
Here are five I use regularly:
- Object Manager to manage objects, fields, relationships, validation rules, and page layouts.
- Profiles, Permission Sets, and Permission Set Groups to control user access without creating unnecessary complexity.
- Flows to automate repetitive business processes and reduce manual work.
- Setup Audit Trail to track configuration changes and quickly understand what changed and when.
- Schema Builder to visualize the data model and better understand how objects relate to one another.
Mastering these features won’t make you an expert overnight.
But they’ll help you troubleshoot issues faster, configure Salesforce more confidently, and make better design decisions.
The best Salesforce Administrators aren’t the ones who know every Setup menu.
They’re the ones who know where to look and which tool fits the problem they’re solving.
